3/4 Orange and 4/5 Green have been learning about the First Fleet and the British colonisation of Australia. Students learned what life was like in 18th century England, including the poor living conditions that resulted in high crime rates.
Students used an online database to research convicts that travelled on the First Fleet and learned about their crime, sentence and the ship they travelled to Australia on.
Students had the opportunity to examine historical artefacts including a convict brick from Sydney (which still holds its imprint marking it as government property), ink bottles, ointment jars, medicine bottles and a variety of other bottles that date back to the 19th century.
